Reefling Privacy Policy

Who we are
Reefling is an iOS application operated by Iker Pascual under the Magellan3 brand, based in Spain. For any privacy-related question, contact privacy@magellan3.com.
For the purposes of the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the data controller is Iker Pascual.
What this policy covers
This policy explains what data Reefling collects, how it is used, and the rights you have over it. It applies to the Reefling iOS application and the related Magellan3 services (such as the in-app feedback feature and optional cloud sync).
Our approach
Reefling is designed to be private by default. The app stores your data locally on your device. Cloud sync and AI photo processing are optional features that are only activated with your explicit action or consent.
Data we collect
Local data (stored on your device)
When you use Reefling, the following information is stored locally on your iOS device:
- Aquariums you create: name, type, dimensions, setup details, notes
- Parameter readings you log: chemistry values, dates, and any notes
- Photos you take of test strips or your aquariums, if you choose to add them
- Maintenance tasks, water changes, and dosing records
- Application settings and preferences
- A randomly generated device identifier used to keep your data separated locally
This data remains on your device unless you choose to enable optional cloud sync (see below).
Account data (only if you create an account)
Reefling can be used fully anonymously. If you choose to create an account to enable cloud sync, we additionally collect:
- Your email address
- Authentication tokens issued by our authentication provider (Supabase)
Cloud-synced data (only for Pro subscribers with sync enabled)
If you subscribe to Reefling Pro and enable cloud sync, the data listed under "Local data" is also stored on our servers (Supabase, hosted in the European Union). Free users' data is never sent to our servers.
AI processing data (only when you take a test strip photo with AI enabled)
When you choose to scan a test strip with the AI feature, and after you have given explicit consent:
- The photo of the test strip is sent to Anthropic, our AI service provider, for analysis
- The extracted chemistry values are returned to your device
- Anthropic does not retain your photo after processing
- You can withdraw your AI consent at any time in the app settings; the AI feature will be disabled and no further photos will be transmitted
Subscription data
If you purchase a Reefling Pro subscription, billing is processed by Apple through the App Store. We receive only the information necessary to verify your subscription status (subscription state, expiry date) from Apple via our subscription provider, RevenueCat.
We do not receive your payment details, full name, or Apple ID. Apple's own privacy policy governs the payment itself.
Feedback data
If you use the in-app feedback feature, the message you submit, your subscription status, app version, device model, iOS version, and your account email (if you are signed in) are sent to us via our email infrastructure provider (Resend). We use this information solely to respond to your message and improve the app.
Technical data
We may collect minimal technical information necessary to operate the service: app version, iOS version, device model, anonymized error reports. This data is used to diagnose problems and is not used for tracking or advertising.
What we do not collect
Reefling does not collect:
- Your real-world location
- Your contacts
- Advertising identifiers
- Browsing or usage data for advertising purposes
- Any data we do not strictly need to provide the service
We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for advertising purposes. Reefling contains no advertising.
Where data is stored and processed
- Local data is stored on your iOS device
- Cloud-synced data (Pro subscribers only) is stored on Supabase servers in the European Union
- AI photo processing occurs on Anthropic infrastructure (United States and the European Union)
- Email infrastructure (feedback, support) is provided by Resend
By using AI photo processing, you consent to your photo being transmitted to Anthropic for the sole purpose of returning the extracted values to you. This is an international data transfer that takes place under standard contractual clauses required by GDPR.
How long we keep your data
- Local data is kept on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app
- Cloud-synced data is kept while your account is active; it is deleted when you delete your account
- Feedback messages are kept for as long as needed to respond and improve the app, typically no more than 24 months
- AI-processed photos are not retained by us or by Anthropic after the response is returned
Your rights
Under GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten")
- Export your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent for AI processing or any other optional feature
- Object to processing
- Lodge a complaint with the Spanish data protection authority (AEPD, https://www.aepd.es)
Reefling provides these in the app:
- Account deletion: Settings → Account → Delete Account. This permanently deletes your account, cloud data, and local data.
- Anonymous data deletion: Settings → Clear All Data.
- AI consent toggle: Settings → Privacy.
For any other request, contact privacy@magellan3.com. We will respond within one month, as required by GDPR.
Subscription cancellation and data
Cancelling your Reefling Pro subscription does not delete your data. Your account and locally stored data remain available; you simply lose access to Pro features. To delete your data, use the in-app account deletion option separately.
Children
Reefling is not intended for children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact privacy@magellan3.com and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top. For material changes, we will notify users in the app.
